PERSONALITY DISORDERS

Modernization also brought a lot of problems with it. And topping the list are the personality disorders. Probably we're familiar with the Borderline Personality Disorder or what is popularly known as BPD and Obsessive compulsive disorder. These personality disorders may affect the individual ranging from explosive bursts to extreme mood swings. These, in turn, damage the social and mental health of the individual.
Personality is elementally the way of thinking or behaving that makes a person different from other people. Personalities are influenced by the environment in which the person grows and also on the experiences and company they had in their life. A personality disorder is a  pattern of behavior which is different from what is normally expected of a person. Personality disorders can affect the individual adversely even leading to extreme depression followed by suicidal thoughts.

TYPES OF PERSONALITY DISORDERS

A STRATIFIED LIST

Personality disorders can broadly be categorized into 10 types.

Antisocial personality disorder: A person with APD may repeatedly lie, try to deceive others and may not conform to social norms. These people try to disregard the rights of others.

Borderline personality disorder: A person with BPD follows the patterns of intense emotions, explosive outbursts, and instability in personal relations. It's sad that how a lot of youngsters are falling prey to this particular disorder after engaging in a few failure relations. Studies show that a lot of these failed relations are biased and matched on the internet. (A NOTE TO THE READERS: NEVER CHEAT ANYONE OR GET CHEATED IN A RELATIONSHIP. IT CAUSES DAMAGE BOTH TO YOU AND THE OTHER PERSON ENGAGED).

Dependent personality disorder: Dependent personality disorder includes patterns where people want to be taken care of, they can be otherwise termed clingy and needy.

Paranoid personality disorder: Patterns resemble those who are paranoid and repetitively questioning almost every aspect of their lives or people related to them. This arises as a result of being cheated once or several times.

Histrionic personality disorder: these patterns include people who are always in a desperate need for attention and feel uncomfortable if they're not the center of attention. These patterns could sometimes provoke extremes such as harming others or being delicate.

Avoidant personality disorder: These patterns include extreme shyness and sensitivity to criticism. People with this disorder need help from others to overcome this and to convey their feelings effectively.

Narcissistic personality disorder: People suffering from these disorders develop a need for admiration and lack of empathy for others. Misunderstandings are quite common with these people and usually leads to greater social problems.

Schizoid personality disorder: Patterns can be observed ranging from not being involved or the desire to involve in close relationships and detachment from social relations. They prefer to be alone and doesn't seem to be moved by praise.

Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder: People with this disorder tend to care more about perfection, orderliness, and control. (Different from OCD).

Schizotypal personality disorder:  People with this disorder are found to be very uncomfortable in close relations with more of an eccentric mind. They can be observed with odd social behavior and more social anxiety compared to normal people.

IMPACT OF PERSONALITY DISORDERS

PD's can affect the productivity and outcome of life events of an individual.
Since most of the organizations look for a stable and strong person(mentally), any of the disorders reduce your chances of being a favorite employee or even to get a job.
A lot of people end up failing in relations because of these personality issues.
Most of the cases of depression observed in the past decade involved one or more personality disorders in the individual.
A lot of social, cultural, and emotional barriers also lead to personality disorders. Examples include, social barriers for girls in some regions in the world are resulting in more than one disorders.

Personality disorders can be lethal if left untreated. They can cause severe damage to your life which cannot be turned back. If you find yourself being similar to any one of these behavioral patterns, please do visit a psychiatrist as soon as possible. Thank you.
